Australia’s announcement that it is actively seeking migrant trades people highlights the pressure on recruitment in this sector. But trades people looking for jobs in the UK should be aware that construction firms are most concerned with recruiting personnel with the right training and qualifications.
Now Ship Shape Resources, a London construction recruitment agency, has implemented a “Train and Place” scheme.
“We speak to a lot of great candidates but our clients have specific skill requirements that are not readily available in the UK market” said Kavan Threadgold, Head of Client Services at Ship Shape Resources. “So we decided to tackle this problem by forming relationships with certified training providers and putting our candidates through the courses needed.”
Ship Shape places trades and labour on short courses that cover the safety issues of work in specific environments (such as transport projects) but is also working to put candidates through longer courses that offer advanced skills in sought after trades.
“Many of our candidates are from the southern hemisphere. They gain a certified qualification, increase their earning potential both here and back home and we keep our clients happy by supplying those Operatives with specific skills,” said Howard Hughes, CEO of Ship Shape Resources.
